Head Coach: Jason Bovenzi
Coach Bovenzi did his high school wrestling at Greece Athena. He compiled an 80-19 record there and placed fourth in the state tournament his senior year. His career really took off in college where he attended St. Lawrence University and wrestled three years for the Saints. During those years he was All-Conference three times (1,2,2) and All-American twice (3,1), winning his first of two National titles. After sitting out his senior season with a shoulder injury, Coach Bovenzi learned that the wrestling program at St. Lawrence was being dropped. He then transferred to Ithaca College, where he was again All-Conference (1), All-American and capped his career off with his second National title. His final overall collegiate record was 101-17-1. Prior to his arrival at ER, Coach Bovenzi coached JV at his Alma Mater and was the assistant coach for the RIT Tiger wrestling team.
Assistant Varsity: Coach Furgiuele
Coach Furgiuele wrestled for Coaches Don Quinn and Ron Whitcomb at East Rochester. During that time he was a member of many championship teams. Individually, Coach Furgiuele was a three-time County Champion, two-time Sectional Champion, and a NYS qualifier. Coach took his talents to Springfield College where he was a two-year starter for the Indians. After his sophomore year, Coach's academic endeavors led him out west where he finished his degree at Colorado State (where there is unfortunately no wrestling program).
JV Coach: Nedim Aksoy
Coach Aksoy wrestled with Coach Bovenzi in high school and was co-captain of the team. Known for his work ethic, Coach Aksoy earned All-County as well as All-League honors for the Trojans and capped off his senior year by earning a berth in the Super Sectionals. Coach Aksoy received his Associates Degree from MCC and served in the US Air Force. He comes to us after heading the Athena JVs for three years.
Modified Coach: Kevin Cafalone
Coach Cafalone is on as the Bomber Modified Coach for a second season. Coach Cafalone did his high school wrestling for Fairport and is the Culinary Arts Teacher at ERHS. He is being helped out by Mr. Don Messmer.
Youth Coach: John Zito
Coach Zito was a three-time State Qualifier and placed second and first respectively in the states his final two seasons. He also earned various honors in the freestyle and greco styles while at ER, placing as high as fourth in the Junior Nationals. Coach Zito accepted a scholarship to Syracuse, where he wrestled four years for the Orangemen. While there he was an Eastern Conference Champion and a National Qualifier. Upon graduation, Coach Zito returned to ER to work with Coaches Quinn, Whitcomb and Bovenzi. He is the current youth coach.
Mr. Tilling
Mr. Tilling comes to us From Marion where he has been involved with the sport of wrestling for 33 years. He is a helper in the room and is also the team photographer!
